App Review: StyleTap

Sega Swirl anyone? :D Posting this one day later then the rest of the internet. But still.

StyleTap came out of private beta and became a regular app yesterday. I grabbed the 15 day trial and am playing with it for a while. Nostalgia filled me up while I searched thru my old .prcs for stuff to test. I was impressed with how it looked, as in “not too bad” :P. The few standard apps I installed worked alright, but anything more advanced (or something?) like Sonic for Palm gave me an arm something something error. Even FileZ gave me some odd errors, but then proceeded in working alright. Even the free (just sayin’ :P) Adobe Reader seemed to work fine.

I don’t like the black space under the screen, they could have fit a graffiti area. And the show game keys option didn’t do anything. Also not having the settings app left me at a loss on how to make apps connect to the outside world. (usb, network, etc) Edit: never mind, google maps for palm found a way to connect itself. (using the default destination even) Still, impressive for a 1.0 (or 0.9) product.

But who knows, now that S60 is touchscreen capable, maybe access will port their Garnet VM to it. One can hope.

In conclusion, StyleTap would not be something I’d buy, because honestly I’d have no use for it. However I find it refreshing playing with Palm OS after all those years, their system wide search and database oriented storage system is still impressive.
